Virtual Servers include root access and dedicated server resources on our vmware© cluster. We utilize a cluster setup for redundancy and failover. Our SAN is uses redundant 6Gig SAS connections and 15K SAS drives for speed.

Will a virtual server meet your needs? Sometimes a dedicated server will better suit your needs if you require:

SQL Server Licensing for a virtual server.

You are required to pay licensing for each virtual CPU on your virtual server. Because of this it is often cheaper to use a dedicated server as your database server with a quad core or 6 core chip which is treated as a single CPU vs a virtual server with 2 or 4 virtual CPUs (vCPUs).
Example Costs:
- Virtual Database server with 2 vCPU and SQL Server 2008 Standard (228-03159) cost $260 per CPU has a total licensing cost of $520 per month.
- Dedicated Data server with a dual core CPU and SQL Server 2008 Standard cost $260 per CPU has a total licensing cost of $260 per month
- The same Dedicated server as above with a Quad Core or 6 Core CPU also has a total licensing cost of $260 per month.
